Lellie Ward teaching a rider in a field.

Lellie Ward

is a lifelong horsewoman with over 45 years of teaching experience in the United States and Europe. A highly respected eventing coach and equestrian trainer, she competed at the Advanced level for 35 years, bringing ten horses to that level of competition. Lellie has ridden at the international level of three-day eventing and competed at the Kentucky Three-Day Event five times on four different horses.

Based in Sheridan, Wyoming, Lellie now shares her experience through riding lessons, clinics, and the RIDE BETTER training system, helping riders of all levels build confidence, connection, and effective communication with their horses.

Leadership & Safety in the Equestrian Community

Beyond her competition career, Lellie served as Joint Master of the Aiken Hounds for 13 years and was appointed Regional Safety Director by the Masters of Foxhounds Association in recognition of her innovative foxhunter safety clinics. Her leadership and commitment to rider safety have made a lasting impact on both the eventing and foxhunting communities.

Training Under the World’s Best Horsemen

Lellie’s extensive education includes training with many of the world’s leading riders and instructors. She spent four years in Germany studying classical dressage with Egon von Neindorff, two years in Ireland with renowned show jumper Iris Kellett, and galloped racehorses in Spain and New York. As a young rider, she worked for Olympic gold medalist Torrance Watkins for 10 years, developing a deep understanding of stable management, turnout, and horsemanship — knowledge that still shapes her instruction today.

International Competition & Coaching Experience

For more than three decades, Lellie Ward trained and competed in both the United States and Europe, riding and teaching across some of the most respected venues in the sport. She owned and operated Paradise Farm in Aiken, South Carolina, where she hosted national and local-level competitions and clinics for over 20 years. Paradise Farm became a nationally recognized training facility, known for its exceptional footing and challenging cross-country courses. The United States Eventing Association (USEA) and United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) held multiple training sessions there under her direction.

Resilience, Renewal, and the Creation of the RIDE BETTER System

After a serious medical setback that required multiple surgeries and years of rehabilitation, Lellie returned to riding and teaching with renewed purpose. Now based near Sheridan, Wyoming, she is creating a new cross-country training course and hosting riding lessons, clinics, and intensives for riders across disciplines.

Drawing on decades of international experience, Lellie developed the RIDE BETTER System — a clear, effective approach to riding and training that emphasizes safety, balance, rhythm, feel, and communication. Through private lessons, clinics, and online courses, she helps riders unlock their potential and build lasting partnerships with their horses.

Her mission is simple: to give riders the tools and understanding to ride better, build confidence, and realize their dreams.
